Fly screens cool and protect eco house
Phantom fly screens were the ideal solution when it came to screening this beautiful eco-house in the South West.
The owners were being constantly pestered by wasps in their bedroom as a result of the surrounding orchard. They also found that cluster flies (a type of blowfly similar to a bluebottle), which enter houses to hibernate during the winter, were gathering on their window frames.
The homeowners had seen screens on Australian TV programmes and decided to try and source them in the UK. They found Phantom Screens while searching for fly screens online and liked what they saw. After an initial meeting with a Phantom-trained installer, they ordered twelve screens. They chose a mixture of Legacy door screens and Serene window screens to enable them to ventilate the entire house without having to worry about insects getting in.
Although the screens were bought for the purpose of keeping insects out, the owners were also pleased to discover that the screens would provide solar shading as the house faces south and the large triple glazed windows let in heat and glare.
They also liked that the screens were retractable and could be rolled away neatly into their housing when not in use.
The owners also wanted to ensure that the screens matched the grey colour of the window and door frames and the quality of the other materials being used. Phantom Screens are made from high quality aluminium which can be finished in any standard RAL colour so this was not a problem.
The installation went very smoothly and the homeowners are now enjoying the benefits of their new screens. They are no longer pestered by wasps or cluster flies and the solar shading keeps the house at a comfortable temperature even during the hot summer months.
